Homemade Basil Pesto

Do you like Basil Pesto? If so, what is your favorite recipe that calls for it? Do you simply add it to hot cooked pasta? Or perhaps you make a basil pizza? I would love to hear what your ideas are that include pesto. Please share.

I made my first batch of homemade pesto today! It is so easy to make, and takes very little time. I can’t wait to use it!

My cousin gave me her recipe for making fresh basil, here it is:

In food processor, combine large clove garlic, 1 1/2 to 2 cups basil, 1 tbsp pine nuts, 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese and salt and pepper. Blend on high for a couple mins until ingredients are blended. Then add 1/2 cup olive oil a bit at a time blending on low. Voila! Use immediately! Refrigerate any unused pesto for a couple days or freeze. Enjoy!

So I went out to my very own raised garden bed and I pinched off about 1 1/2 to 2 cups of fresh basil.

The process is very simple. Here is a YouTube video from Bonnie Plants Recipes – Fresh Basil Pesto taking us through the steps to make your very own basil pesto! Enjoy!
